Fallout Shelter, the game that made most of the advertisement of Fallout 4, the game that was received well by critics, but not the people, had a little ad game that took the fan base by storm. I got my hands on it and I had fun with it. I loved managing games and this one, carrying my favorite franchise, was amazing... Then my phone died because of all the notifications. Hello and welcome to this extremely late thought blog.
I'm not going to judge the game at launch since the game had some pretty bad issues when it released. Instead, I will be writing about the game now. Although most of the issues were fixed, I still want to talk about how much of an unbalanced game this is. The first thing is the main recourses: Power, Food and Water. Everything for a modern day person to have, right? Well, it seems that these little dwellers can't get enough of it, both in the literally and in a sarcastically.
The power takes about ten minutes to produce enough power, food and water takes about twenty minutes to produce even the slightest amount of each. You'd think that the game would be kind and give you a shorter timer on the needed resources for your dwellers to live, but nope! They have to make you suffer as you watch each and every dweller you cared and love slowly get radiation poisoning and starve. What about that one dweller you sent to travel the wasteland? He's going to come home with corpses and ghouls. But hey! You got some more caps!
I really don't understand why they don't have an upgraded version of the resources rooms. "But StarterPack, they do!" I know, but that's if you have tons of dwellers! I mean, more than 50 dwellers in your vault. I would have liked it if there were more resources rooms as your progress and get more dwellers, having the player be able to maintain his vault much easier than just trying to put on lucky suits on ever resource worker to boost a rush's success. Still doesn't work since the wheel of resources doesn't like to have the game in your favor. "Why don't you have more power rooms and stuff!?" I have about 4 power rooms in my vault and about 3 food and water rooms that are still in the dark. And knowing that the game doesn't like the player, that was a bad idea since each power room doesn't give much to maintain the vault. I know that would be a mistake on my behalf. but still, why is this a mechanic?
What makes the game even harder is the fact that the game is always active, even when it's off. This makes the game have the player always pay attention to the game like a Tomodachi. I don't want this to consume my life as I try to have fun with a spinoff of my favorite franchise! I really don't get that, I would have gottent he concept if there were an auto collect system as you wait beause, for some reason, the game has the dwellers wander the room waiting for the player to collect resources. What the hell are you doing!!? Do something! Make more food, water or something! Just don't walk around the room wondering what you should do!
Besides that, the game's quest part is pretty fun. Although, waiting can be a pain, the game's idea of an adventure is pretty fun. Once you enter your first quest, you... Just... Tap... On a square...? What? I thought this was going to be a random encounter type of thing where you take turns on when your should fight, but this is just watch this-guy-fight-monster type of thing. Why? You missed out on something Bethesda! Although, I still enjoy it for some odd reason, but still that feature could have gone a lot better.
I mean, the random encounters are weak! You enter a room and either a mole rat, radroach or a ghoul is there. There could be a raider, but they have loot, so that wouldn't be fair if the game gave the player too much loot! And it seems that the level requirements are useless to the missions, since my level 38 dweller with a guided Fatman dies within the few seconds he discovers a ghoul. I know it would have been a bit overpowered if the Fatman can kill anything within it's range, but still, it's a mini nuke launched at your face! It should at least knock you down half health. "Why don't you use a stimpack, StarterPack?" Well, I tend to have very little since the power has been a but low this past month, so I hardly bring any.
And the one thing I don't understand is the microtransactions. They already had the lunchboxes that gave you crap you could be getting from the wasteland, but because they put the quests in there, they had to put something in there to speed it up! Nuka-Cola! It should have been something that gave you full resources and I would have understood that, but they had to make the gems system in this game. You can gain it through lunchboxes (If you're lucky enough) or you find some in the wasteland, but to get it the easy way (Which isn't) you have to buy them. I wish they didn't add that to the game since they already had microtransactions in it with the lunchboxes, that was enough as it is for the game. As far as I can see, Bethesda has enough money at the moment to do things, doesn't seem like they are desperate to get the money.
Same goes for the Mr. Handies and pets! Why have me buy them or expect them in the Lunchboxes? I rather seem them outside begging to get in or be provided with the vault! It's just a pay to win type of things. Buy this to make things easier, and get this dog to boost your dweller's abilities! No! Don't beg for my money! Don't scam me! "StarterPack, you can spend the money, it's just a dollar!" A dollar that I can save for my rent or for something more useful! You think I'm going to pay with my rock? I'm not Jack Black! I lost respect in you Bethesda! I still love you guys, but why!? You could have made this game much better!
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this, I know this is a late one, but I wasn't much of a person to judge on these kinds of games. Again I hope you enjoyed this and 'til next time...

That was kind of unexpected...
