My Thoughts on Breath of the Wild

Oh, there was a time, I actually liked it when developers put a hold on the releases. They usually do it because there is a problem in the game to fix, redesigning the story or to make the game a better experience. Breath of the Wild was told to be released on the Wii U and was the only reason why people bought that thing in 2012. Then, the game was put on hold for a year. They told us it would be on the Wii U and they made sure it would be. Then another year. Then yet another. The game was to release on the Wii U and primarily on the Switch. Usually I would forgive the child friendly company, but this was a large betrayal on almost everyone's part. Hello and welcome to this angry thought blog.

Trust me, I love Zelda. It's a great franchise and it has me wanting more everytime I finish one game. It's just that this was a scam! They knew that this title, this secondary IP, would be the only reason why people would buy a Wii U. They knew the console would fail and they knew that the only reason why people would buy it was because of Breath of the Wild. Literally, everyone was excited. My dad who doesn't like Zelda very much was excited. My sister who doesn't like Nintendo wants to see it! We spent the few hundred dollars to buy the damn console just to prepare for the game's release. After our second year of having it, we sold it to advance towards a better console: the PS4 and Xbox One.

Now the Switch is out and they said it will release along with the Breath of the Wild. Seeing that most fans were blind to see the scam we were put in forgot about the game's first announcement and was excited. For those who remembered, wanted to punch Reggie in his smug face. Sorry Reggie. My dad's friend is a long time fan of the franchise and spread the love to his kids is actually boycotting the console because of this.

I have seen the gameplay, but not too much to actually spoil the game, and I love what I'm seeing, but I can't get over the fact of its long awaited release and the betrayal the company gave us. I love the new mechanics and the game looks to be a fun adventure for everyone to have, but I'm still angry.

Now that I have put that aside, let's talk about what I actually like about the game. The game seems to be treading new waters in this new release. I really like where they are going. The game is actually getting player who don't like the franchise interested in this game. And the fact that the game is bigger world is even better.

I hear people are saying "The game is now 'open world!'" but when you look at it, Zelda has always been that way. I don't know why they are now seeing that it is, but the game always been in a free-roaming state since the first release in 1986. Yes, those worlds were small and the games then couldn't hold what this does, but still. You don't have to advertise that it's "NOW OPEN WORLD" because that would be an already said statement. "What about Windwaker? That was a large world with little to explore! What do you have to say about that, StarterPack!?" Well, yes. That was an open world and larger than most Zeldas, but it was a bit empty. It was fun to find something in the sea, it actually felt like an adventure through the seas and that's what people look over in the game. Yes, there wasn't much, but the Sea is an empty place and seeing that you found something felt like you were Columbus treading on Undiscovered land, and that's what Breath of the Wild might feel like with the large world.

Back to the topic, I hear people are also saying that Hyrule has expanded. "Are you going to sh!t on that too, StarterPack?" No, I actually think this is what the developers and Miyamoto wanted Hyrule to be: A large landscape that shows Hyrule's actual beauty and marvelous people. I mean, if you compare this to the other Hyrules, you can see that there is a lot of difference with them. The best Example is Ocarina of Time. People say that Hyrule field was too small to advertise the legendary Hyrule kingdom or the castle itself. I really hope they put more design in the castle, because that would be a missed opportunity on Nintendo's part. "But StarterPack," before you say it, I know that they might have shown it on the gameplay footage, but like I said, I don't want to spoil the game for myself. I want this to be a fresh experience for me and my family when we get it. Excluding my mom. She hates the theme with a passion and doesn't want to hear it.

Well that all my thoughts about the game. Before you ask, No, this game doesn't make me want the console. I hear it's on the PS4 and might just get it on that instead. I know most of you might say it's a downgrade, but I don't care. I spend less money for it. Anyways, I hope you somewhat enjoyed this and like my stupid rant, and 'til next time...
